About the area

Pick up any guide book and you can see that Nice and its surrounding area is rich in history, culture and tradition.

Villa Claudia can be used as a base to explore the whole area or just to discover Nice itself. Winter, Spring, Autmun or Summer - every season is special and has something to offer.

Winter and Spring bring the crisp clear sunny days that the coast is famed for with its fantastic light that drew artists such as Picasso Cezanne etc, excellent for walking in and exploring the many museums(Matisse, Chagalle, Beaux-Arts, Contemporay Art), hiking or mountain biking in the back country with all its beautiful hill perched villages, or going even higher and trying your hand at skiing and snow boarding(Isola 2000).

Summer and the start of Autumn are ideal for all those activities associated with the sea, if its scuba diving, wind surfing, sailing , snorkelling or just working on that tan!

There is always some event happening, from the Christmas fairs and skating rinks that are created, carnival in February. The Lemon and Orange Festivals, special exhibitions, the Cimiez and Juan les pins Jazz Festival in July, the Grand Prix in Monaco in May, Cannes Film Festival, Firework competitions throughout the summer, Bastille Day - July 14th, antiques fairs..... the list is never ending.

Come and discover the coast and the wilderness behind you won't regret it

History

Villa Claudia is one of four villas built in the 1800s by the patriarch of an old Niçoise family intending to leave one for each of his daughters, - at this time the area was olive groves and fields with a smattering of villas - a dusty dirt road leading away from the port of Nice to the small fishing village of VilleFranche beyond.

With the passage of time Nice has grown spreading and encompassing the surrounding fields and groves, no longer the small resort town favoured by the English for their winter retreats - it is now an exciting busy cosmopolitan city with something for everyone. Surrounded by the growing city these villas have remained a unique pocket of yester year, a haven of peace and tranquillity, a drop of greenness -where it is possible to experience a glimpse of its rich past, yet stepping out you are within minutes of everything modern day Nice has to offer too.
